Install new pendant light onto lathe and plaster ceiling
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.43 PM
Hello I have a lathe and plaster ceiling which is in good condition. I have removed the old pendant light. I can see a piece of wood which has been inserted into the ceiling, I imagine in between the lathe and plaster, most likely screwed in to the joists, but I am not 100% sure, and I cannot see/locate the joists (and I don't want to hack into the lathe and plaster ceiling) The problem I have is that the new pendant light has a wider ceiling rose diameter than the piece of wood in the ceiling. Which means I can only get 1 screw into the wood. How do I securely attach the other 2 screws into the ceiling? Is there a type of fittings for lathe and plaster ceiling? Or do I need another solution...? Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks Update on 12/1/13: Thanks for the answers so far. Going for a standard ceiling rose won't work as the light is a kind of chandelier with its own ceiling rose. Perhaps I could try to get a ceiling pattress of the same diameter as the ceiling rose of the light, screw it to the wood in the ceiling then screw the ceiling rose into the ceiling pattress, would that work?
