Newly laid patio was looking great then after grouting lots of stains have appeared 😔

Anonymous user 07/07/2026 - 7.51 AM

Hi all - we have just had a patio laid - Raj Indian Sandstone. It looked great when laid but after being grouted now has lots of marks A shadows around edges and also lots of speckled areas. The company Director has said it is just natural variation but I have photos from before grouting and there are none of these marks. Any suggestions of what they are and how to remove them? I have photos but can’t see how to add them to the question!

If the marks appeared only after grouting, then natural variation is generally not a convincing explanation. Natural variation in Indian sandstone will usually be clear before they are installed , it doesn’t suddenly appear after grout has been applied. We’ve come across this a few times and its most commonly grout haze or moisture staining.

Hi. Do you know what was used to point the slabs? This can happen sometimes with the Indian Sandstone but although may take several week it should naturally fade away.

Luckily sandstone can be sanded and washed to bring the colour back. I charge £30 for the 1st hour £20 per hour after. I have all the equipment needed to do this and headphones because it’s a tedious job to do. What did they use for grouting? Grey mix from a tub and add water to it or cement??
