Yes, grass can grow successfully. A 4-foot (1.2-meter) depth provides more than enough soil for turf roots. However, because concrete is impermeable, drainage is severely affected unless specific modifications are made. Without proper drainage, water will pool above the concrete, creating a waterlogged bog that causes root rot.
