Kitchen refit, electricals

Oksana 08/06/2026 - 3.28 PM

We have trunking since having our whole house rewired in 2019. However, we are having a new kitchen installed within the next month. The kitchen fitter has insisted on getting rid of the trunking in the kitchen, and putting the electricals back inside the walls, so the new kitchen will look better. I am a disabled person who feels perfectly safe with a trunking system. Is it possible to have the electrics in the kitchen rewired back into the walls? Will the appliances in the kitchen work if they get rid of the trunking and do it that way? And also, will it be safe?

The electrics are better in the walls and safer if done correctly.

Yes to all three. Moving the wiring from surface trunking back into the walls (called chasing) is standard practice and very common. Your appliances will work exactly the same way: the cables and circuits are identical, they're just routed inside the wall instead of in plastic trunking on the surface. It's perfectly safe when done by a qualified electrician, and the work should be tested and certified afterwards.
