Hip roof but not tying into old roof

Hey everyone hope you can help, I am building a new timber frame extension with a hip roof on it it is 5 x 3 meters. I don't want to ty the new hip roof into the old roof so how do I do this? I was thinking of having the roof truss made with a flat section on to the side that will be up to the old roof and then have a small flat roof to the back so I could take off the old facer and sophist and have the flat roof there if you know what I mean or any ideas? Help thanks
