Heat warped back door not locking
Anonymous user 13/07/2026 - 8.35 AM
Midday heat and went to lock up only ti find the door handle isn’t lifting to allow the locking mechanism. This happened last year too. But we managed to lock it in the cool evening. But we’re concerned about unlocking it for a while last year. Any advice or is it time for a new door? I hope not as really don’t have time to be home right now

No, not time for new door. Time for getting in an experienced locksmith to realign door/keeps. If you have damaged the mechanism because of forcing the handles up, you may also need a new gearbox. You need someone who knows what they are doing and not a DIY'er.

I wouldn’t say you need a new door just yet. It sounds more like the door is dropping slightly and expanding in the heat, which is why the handle won’t lift properly to lock.
It should just need an adjustment to get the door balanced and lined up properly again. I’d avoid forcing the handle up though, as that can damage the gearbox inside the lock, and that’s a much more costly repair.
Once it’s adjusted, it should open and lock properly again, even in the warmer weather.

Look at the door keep. If there are marks where the rollers or hooks go they may need adjusting. You can do this easily yourself. Have a look on YouTube.

The latest two answers already provided are spot on....New Doors are a very last resort and seldom required unless frames or doors are damaged.
Get a Locksmith in BEFORE the forcing of the handles/lock causes breakage.....THEN, it's going to cost more !

Because of the hot weather the door has expanded and the bolts needs realignment
