Beading Needed?

Anonymous user 20/04/2026 - 8.05 AM

Joinery has stated for our flooring in our kitchen we need LVT (click system) if we don’t want beading around our kitchen unit end panels. If we use laminate we will have to have beading. We don’t need beading wall side as we don’t have skirting so that will be afterwards. Its just the edges of the kitchen units where the end panels are. Can someone confirm if this is true? Laminate needs beading but LVT (click system) doesn’t? Thanks.

Hi, LVT click flooring does require an expansion gap. I would allow a minimum of 5mm but ideally 10mm. If skirting is already fitted, a “bead” or scotia moulding would hide the gap. If skirting isn’t already fitted, the skirting will hide the gap. LVT and laminate are both floating floors so need the expansion gap as they expand and contract with temperature change and movement on the floor. He only way to have no gap is to go for a glue-down flooring system. Hope that helps

Hi there Both laminate and click LVT are floating floors, which means they require an expansion gap around fixed objects like kitchen unit end panels. The only way to avoid beading around kitchen units is to use: Glue-down LVT, which can be fitted tight to edges with a much smaller gap and a cleaner finish. Thank you

Yes, it is true. And only a joiner would recommend put click flooring down. Any professional floor fitter would advise you against click and buy glue down LVT as no gaps are needed to be left. The only reason a joiner has specified that flooring is so he can price and do your floor, as he isn’t qualified or has the experience to install glue down LVT
