Kitchen Fitting

Is this ok in a new kitchen under sink cupboard

Anonymous user 07/04/2026 - 2.31 PM

I have just had a kitchen fitted and have a lot of snagging issues. The melamine at the front of the base unit under the sink where the door closes seems to have split and opened up a little in the corner exposing the chipboard underneath. It looks as if a screw has been put in without drilling first and forced the wood to swell opening the join in the melamine. I have checked all the other cupboards and they are not split anywhere else. Should I accept this in an expensive new kitchen? The installer wants to seal it but my feeling is that it should be perfect and new, not damaged and repaired. Should I insist on a new base for this cupboard?

The part should be replaced. Especially, if it was an expensive kitchen. Also, really high quality kitchens built with customers in mind include aluminium or stainless steel tray at the bottom of the sink unit to prevent moisture ingress. The verdict — the part is broken by the installer and should be fixed. There’s no need for the whole new unit but the broken part only.
