Damp Proofing

Damp Proofing A Single Skin Brick Wall of the New Build Garage for Office Use

Anonymous user 15/04/2026 - 7.53 AM

We have a new build 3.1m x 6.1m single skin garage and we want to turn it into a warm office. We are thinking of splitting the garage into 30:70. We could batten the walls or build stud walls and screw them in but I understand we need to have damp proof membrane first. What do you suggest on the recommended membrane materials and fixing plugs or would you suggest using a special adhesives please? And what joining tape would you recommend?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Construct an independent insulated stud wall system, maintaining a clear cavity between the external single skin brickwork and internal structure. Incorporate rigid insulation within the stud, and install a continuous vapour control layer on the warm side prior to plasterboarding. Avoid direct application of damp proof membranes to the internal face of the external wall, as this may trap moisture within the masonry.
