Thermaq thermostat on wall no light

Kenneth Lauritsen 05/05/2026 - 8.05 AM

Hi, We have purchased a house with thermaq thermostats on both floors but none of them light up when you toggle the wheel on the side. They are wired and wireless so no batteries. Any idea how to turn them on ?.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, if both thermostats have no lights at all, it’s most likely a power issue rather than a setting. I’d check if the heating fuse or breaker is off, and also make sure the programmer/boiler is powered on. Some models only light up when there’s power from the heating system. If everything else is on, it may be a wiring issue or they’ve been disconnected, so worth getting a heating engineer to take a quick look.

Hi, If the thermostats are not lighting up, it’s likely they are not receiving power. This could be due to a wiring issue, a fault with the receiver, or a problem with the fused spur supplying them. I would recommend checking the power supply first, and if needed, having the system inspected to identify the fault. Kind regards, ROUZ Plumbing & Gas Services

With Thermaq systems (often paired with Evocyl cylinders), those wall controllers are usually "hard-wired" for power but "wireless" for the signal they send back to the wiring centre. If you've got no lights on either floor, the first thing to check isn't the thermostat—it's the switched spur or the wiring centre near your hot water cylinder. Thermaq stats don't usually have a "power button." They should be live all the time. If they are dark: Check the Cylinder Cupboard: Look for a 3-amp fused spur (a wall switch with a fuse tray) near your cylinder or heat pump. If that’s switched off, the entire control circuit—including the wall stats—is dead. The Wiring Centre: Inside your airing cupboard, there's usually a white box where all the zone valves and stats meet. If a fuse has blown in there, or if the power to the heating system is off, your stats won't get the 230v they need to light up. The "Ribbon" Connection: Sometimes, if the front cover of those Thermaq units isn't snapped on perfectly, the pins don't make contact with the backplate. If you’ve been decorating and took the covers off, give them a firm click to make sure they’re seated. It’s very unlikely that both units have died at the exact same time. It’s almost certainly a lack of power coming from the main heating controls or a tripped breaker in your consumer unit labeled "Heating" or "Boiler." If you've checked the fuses and the switches and there's still no life, you’ll need a pro with a multimeter to see if 230v is actually reaching the backplate of the stat.
