Old fireplace with side arch in Kitchen......Hate it!

Maureen 16/03/2026 - 7.54 AM

Have an old defunct fireplace in kitchen that is not useable and has an arch built into the brickwork whete the flue ftom that fireplace, fed into the duel chimney. I hate that arch as it takes up valuable wall space and want to know who to talk to about getting rid of it so the fireace wall is just straight up to the ceiling. I want to open up the old fireace space itself and make a "feature" of it BUT not use it as a fireplace as I want to put base cabinets in the cavity instead. We are a mid-terrace house so the wall the fireplace is on is a party wall. Can anyone point me in the right directions of who and what I need to talk to etc?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi , sounds to me like you just need a builder, to demolish the old chimney and either remove the full chimney or remove the feathers and you can build cabinets between the legs. It's not a DIY job though, the chimney has to be made safe so get a builder in for a quote Cheers Gary
