EIC and Building Regs Compliance Certs

We had a new RCD distribution board installed by an NICEIC electrician just over 5 years ago (Feb. 2021). He didn't provide the EIC or notify the work - I checked with NICEIC. We're selling the house. This work was completed under our ownership. I contacted him and he said he'd do an EICr on the property. That would still mean it's non compliant in terms of building control. Are we better off hiring a reliable registered electrician to put a new board in properly and issue the certs? How best to proceed. I'm keen to make sure we're compliant to avoid potential issues down the line. Thanks in advance.

Since he installed it and is registered with NICEIC, he may still be able to notify the job late. Many scheme providers allow late notification (sometimes with a small fee) Ask him directly Can you issue the Electrical Installation Certificate for the 2021 consumer unit replacement and retrospectively notify it through NICEIC so the Building Regulations certificate is generated.

An EICR would normally be the best option here. The consumer unit change should have had an EIC and Building Regs notification at the time, but those can’t be issued later by another electrician. If you’re selling the house, the usual solution is to get a qualified electrician to carry out an EICR. If it comes back satisfactory, it shows the installation is safe and this is usually accepted by buyers and solicitors. Replacing the board again just to get new certificates would normally be unnecessary unless the EICR finds problems that need fixing.

Good afternoon.The Electrician whom carried the work out should of done that in the first place. The best way you can go forward now to have EIC not an EICR is the way you said yourself. Hire an electrician to change your board and you will get both EIC and BCN . Depending on location i could help with that im Wisbech based.
