Help with cause of fascia rot?
Anonymous user 02/06/2026 - 11.53 AM
Can I ask the help of anyone who may have a more trained eye than me about the suspected cause of my fascia/ soffit rot. Other than the rot, there is a very small amount of water making it into my loft, and an occasional drip from the end of the gutter on the cable end - over the damaged soffit area.

Hi There,
You could possibly be getting water in and without eaves protection over your fascia, this would allow the water ingress to make its way into your property.

Most likely your felt has eroded at the eaves allowing wind driven rain to get blown in under the tiles/and rain getting under your tiles dripping into the loft,
Replace the first mtr of underfelt & install felt support trays at the eaves vented ones would be better.
Good luck Alex

Hi there
If it’s a newish roof then if the breathable membrane is into the gutter it will soak upwards as there should be eaves trays or the first half metre to metre should be felt or dpc which doesn’t absorb water. The end of the gutter stop end could be defective also. And may need to be re-aligned if gutters are with metal straps.

Hi.
Its a common place to get leaks. If your verge has failed it runs into the bottom corner. This will cause it to rot. It could be over years.
A full replacement will be needed and get them to look at the verge. Also check all the gutters are clear and flowing

The felt has perished and dropped down behind the fascia. The rotten wood should be cut out and replaced, the fist section of felt replaced with an underlap then felt support/eaves protector fitted. It is also wise to fit a support inder the eaves protector say 6mm ply as in extreme heat the eaves protector can soften and warp and fall ineards with extreme heat
