Limescale build up and overflowing cast iron old cistern

Anonymous user 06/03/2026 - 7.58 AM

Hi what is the best solution for limescale build up as the cistern is a bit noisy and sometimes over flows. It is an antique cistern with chain and I can hear flowing water in it all the time now. Does this mean it is using more water as my water bill has gone up too. It was installed over 15 years ago and make need new appliances inside. Thanks

Since the cistern is over 15 years old, it may simply need new internal fittings. So you have to change: • Fill valve • Float • Siphon unit • Seals These parts are inexpensive and can make an old cistern work like new.
