The "Easy" Way to Access the Eaves You don't actually need to "remove" the tiles in the traditional sense. You just need to create a gap. • The Slide Method: Most modern interlocking tiles can be gently slid upward. Push the bottom row of tiles up toward the ridge of the roof about 3–4 inches. This should expose the felt carrier or the fascia board where the comb needs to sit.

The easiest way is normally to carefully lift or slide the bottom couple of courses of tiles up enough to gain access to the eaves, rather than completely stripping them off. Fit the metal eaves comb securely along the top of the fascia/eaves line, making sure the comb fingers sit up underneath the tile profile and close off the gaps without obstructing ventilation or water drainage. With interlocking tiles, the bottom course may be mechanically fixed depending on the tile type, exposure and original fixing specification. If you remove any nails/clips/screws, they should be reinstated correctly rather than just relying on the weight of the tiles. Normally the fixing goes into the tiling batten using the appropriate tile nail, screw or manufacturer’s clip — never randomly screw through the face of the tile.
