Fitting aluminium windows to rear extension of terraced house
Michael Rooney 10/03/2026 - 7.05 AM
Hello, I am thinking of replacing the uPVC windows and French doors in the rear extension of my house with aluminium windows for a sleeker look. I had read on one supplier website that these windows are best suited to a larger property and wondered if it was worth installing them at the back of a terraced house? For reference the panes of glass in each of my back doors are approx 178cmH x 52cm W, and the window on either side is 93cm x 9scm. Any opinions much appreciated on this, thanks

Hi Michael,
The best option ultimately depends on your budget. uPVC is the most popular choice for replacement windows because it's more affordable upfront and has a quicker turnaround time for supply and installation. However, uPVC frames are generally bulkier in appearance.
Aluminium, on the other hand, offers much slimmer, more elegant frames that maximise glass area and let in more light. It also tends to have a longer lifespan
