Cracked bathroom tile
Anonymous user 09/02/2026 - 7.58 AM
Hi there, After a cracked bathroom tile, there's been a leak from the kitchen ceiling below it. Would it be possible to repair the broken tile or is it likely that a larger area or all the floor tiles need to be replaced? Thanks in advance.

Not necessarily, it needs an on site inspection to evaluate the damage.

It would be hard to say until the tile is up but it’s possible that just the cracked tile can be replaced and re grouted.

Hello,
It is possible to repair one broken tile, however it makes me think the subfloor the tiles were laid on has not been prepared properly. Cracking is a sign of movement within the subfloor(unless a heavy object was dropped). If you noticed signs of cracked grout in other tiles this would suggest the subfloor needs looking at.

Hi, it depends on the cause of the crack and the extent of the damage. If the tile cracked due to impact and the waterproofing below is intact, a local repair may be possible. However, if the crack has compromised the waterproofing or indicates movement in the subfloor, a wider area—or full floor—may need to be lifted and properly re-waterproofed to prevent further leaks

Cracked tile would need to be removed to clearly see damage that is not visible with tole still in place

Unless it's a wet room it's unlikely. The floor would have to get very wet for it to leak through the ceiling.
