Customisation of wardrobe and shelving

Jesin Jose 26/01/2026 - 8.03 AM

I want to do a customised wardrobe and do some shelving. What material would be the best one?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

it depends on what type of finish that you are after. cost effective = MR MDF as this is better for paint finish. Medium Level of budget= you can get panels which have different type of pre-finish which save painting and time. this allow one trade instead of a few. higher level of budget=you can get custom bespoke made to order along with lighting and pull out drawers. same for pullout hanging racks. Hope this helps

MDF sheets are usually a good option easy wood to work with and look good after paint and are common in any building merchants

MDF Shheting is the best opton, The ends of the material need sanding and PVA priming before painting or it will absorb the paint and swell.

I agree, MDF is the cheapest and often best option, however painting it is not the easiest.

Mdf is good for a painted finish. I normally try go for a higher grade mrdf (moisture resistant) as the paint finish is much better on these sheets than your standard mdf sheets.

If you are painting then a suitable thickness MDF and I would glue and pin timber edges as although paint finish on the flat surface of MDF is great, the edges tend to be furry.
