My neighbours are building a fence in their back garden which runs next to my driveway where there is already a wall dividing the driveway and their back garden . What is the maximum height they can build their new fence which runs along the wall diving their garden and my driveway

In most cases, a fence can be up to 2 m high without planning permission, unless it is next to a highway. If it is adjacent to a road or affects visibility, the limit is usually 1 m. If there is already a wall, the combined height of the wall and fence is what counts. Local council rules may vary.

Total amount would be 6ft 6” so that’s a 6ft panel and a 6”gravel-board

6ft 6"is the maximum height allowed however once the fence is within 2 meters of the footpath or road the height should be reduced to a maximum 4ft so not to obstruct your view of pedestrians or other vehicles when you are leaving or entering your property.

I was always under the impression 3ft6” - 4ft was the most suitable height in your front garden, especially if by a public highway or footpath. There are laws in place that it shouldn’t be any higher that. Unless got planning permission.

Yes up to 2 meters at the side and rear and a maximum of 1,2 meters at the front without planning permission is the norm.

In general, a fence can be up to 2 metres high without planning permission, but this is reduced to 1 metre where the fence is adjacent to a highway, road, footpath, or affects visibility when exiting a driveway. Where there is an existing wall, the combined height may be taken into account if the fence materially increases obstruction. Local council rules and visibility requirements can also apply, so it’s always best to check with the local planning authority before works proceed.

Up to 2.0 m (about 6 ft 6 in) overall height is normally allowed for a rear or side garden boundary without planning permission. Up to 1.0 m (about 3 ft 3 in) is the usual limit where the boundary is adjacent to a public highway/road or pavement without planning permission. “Overall height” is measured from the ground level at the base of the fence and includes any posts, trellis toppers, or caps. If your driveway or boundary faces a public road, the lower 1 m limit typically applies without planning permission. i hope it helps
