Removal of gas fire & surround

Anonymous user 12/01/2026 - 11.07 AM

Hi. I have purchased a house and it has half circle wall mounted marble surround and gas fire. I want to remove them and have the open space to put an electric stove type fire in its place - can this be done?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi. All depends how big is the chimney. From building regs you need to keep 300mm on each side of the chimney for the support. For example if your chimney is 1200mm 1200mm - 600mm = 600mm The chimney should be ok to open to 600mm internally. But there is couple other things to check and I will advise to get professional. Alternatively you can build false chimney to take the electric stove you like.
