Anonymous user 18/02/2026 - 8.20 AM

Hi Everyone, I am looking to convert 2 two utility rooms which are adjacent to each other into a bedroom with ensuite. I would need to know which tradesman needs to be involved in this and i prefer to use only verified and qualified tradesman for this job and would like to know the estimate. Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Please get a structural engineer to check if any of the walls are load bearing or not first. The cost of the work will depend entirely to this. Also, the subfloor situation needs to be checked since you want an ensuite, the drainage will need to be planned carefully. You havent mention where these rooms are located in the house so please allow 1-2 cm drop per linear meter for the drainage.

Hi, thank you for your question. Converting two utility rooms into a bedroom with ensuite will typically require a builder to manage the project, a plumber for drainage and water supply, a Part P certified electrician for lighting and ventilation, and a plasterer, tiler and decorator for finishes. If any dividing walls need removing, a structural engineer should assess them first. This type of work will require a Building Regulations application covering structure, drainage, ventilation and electrics. Costs vary depending on specification and location but as a rough guide expect between eight and fifteen thousand pounds. I would recommend getting at least three detailed quotes. Hope this helps.
