Can the top half of a newel post be replaced?

Alexander Hamilton 08/12/2025 - 8.04 AM

Hi, I'm looking to renovate my banister and the top half of my newel post needs a complete replacement. Is that possible? Or will I need to do the entire thing?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes it is possibly to use your old newel post by scarfing a new one on to it

splicing is possible but be sure to dowel both parts to provide strength. Partial dismantling the handrail for jointing will probably need doing.
