Washing machine overflowing due to water inlet valve failure after mains outage

Washing machine overflowing due to water inlet valve failure after mains outage Hi. Our area had a full mains water cut from South East Water yesterday, and when the supply came back the washing machine started taking in water by itself. Even when the machine is switched OFF, water keeps entering the drum until it overflows onto the floor. I’ve turned off the water supply tap to stop it for now, but I’m worried the internal cold-water inlet valve is stuck open or damaged from the pressure surge when water was restored. Has anyone seen this happen after a water outage, and can an engineer confirm this is likely a failed inlet valve that needs replacing? Thanks.
