Dampness behind a wardrobe

Anonymous user 10/12/2025 - 7.58 AM

I have some fitted wardrobes in one bedroom in a bungalow, it joins on to next doors bungalow and behind the wardrobe is some dampness, there is backing on the wardrobe so there’s a small gap in between where dampness has formed, another bedroom that backs on doesn’t have any dampness but doesn’t have fitted wardrobes, the adjoining bungalow is empty and in a poor state, it has no heating or anything, no double glazing and I was wondering if this would contribute to the dampness, I don’t know how thick the dividing wall is, any suggestions as to the cause of the dampness

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Afternoon. It’s definitely likely that yea damp is coming from next door if the property is empty, dose next door have leaking down pipes gutters etc , if next doors walls are damp , it will push through to yours ? Brick work should usually be 9inch . The thing with damp u can only control it, do u have any pics ? Could just need the damp taking off , salt neutralise the bricks and tank were is damp . Sand and cement back up and finished with a plaster finish . If you could send a few pics over ? Any ventilation?

Countless possibilities. If the wall is cold and limited air then yes dampness forms . Ideally keep wardrobes open and try not to pack clothes on rails tightly . If possible have a fan on low blowing gently . The dampness will evaporate . Very very common problem
