Is it normal for an electric shower to buzz?

Anonymous user 18/11/2025 - 7.54 AM

I’ve recently noticed that our electric shower makes quite a loud buzzing noise when it’s on. We’ve lived here for three years now and I don’t recall it ever being this bad. It sounds a lot worse the colder it is outside or the hotter you turn the shower up. Is this an issue that needs to be checked or is this normal? To note, the electric shower seems quite old, so I want to upgrade to a new one, but I’m not sure if this would need to be looked into first. Thanks!

Hi, this shouldn’t happen, chances are the cable going to the shower is arcing Due to being to small for the load of the shower or a loose connection.

Definitely worth to check connection but you may hear something like that due solenoid operation or even heating element sometimes specially if water flow its low

If the sound is getting worst when you turn the temp up, it’s most likely the heating element failing. Replace with new shower & it will be fine, just make sure the cabling and circuit is the correct size for the new shower.

The colder the weather , the colder the water coming into the shower, so it has to work harder and can buzz , this is normal , however if it was to get very loud I would get it checked out.
