✅ When It’s Okay You can tile over existing tiles if: 1. The old tiles are firmly fixed — no loose or hollow-sounding tiles. 2. The surface is flat and level — uneven tiles will make the new layer unstable. 3. There’s enough height clearance — adding new tiles raises the floor, which might affect door clearance or appliances. 4. The existing surface is clean and grease-free — use a good degreaser before applying adhesive. 5. You use the right adhesive, specifically one designed for “tiling over tiles” (usually a flexible tile adhesive). ⚠️ When You Shouldn’t • The old tiles are cracked, loose, or damaged. • The surface underneath has moisture or movement issues. • You’re tiling over vinyl, wood, or uneven flooring — those should be removed. 🧱 Tip If you’re unsure about the old tile condition, it’s safer to remove them first. That way, you avoid potential issues with adhesion or uneven levels later.
