How much deposit should I pay for bathroom fitting

Hi ,when ever I quote for a job and the client is providing the materials . In the quote I will detail the labour cost and ask for a 50% deposit and 50% on completion. There are always material costs the client doesn’t think of especially in regards to plumbing. Unfortunately in the construction industry we do have difficulty in getting money from clients once the job is completed. I’m not saying all clients are like this . But the 50% protects us and the client as you are still with holding the final payment untill your happy. Never pay the full amount untill your happy or upfront

This is to much. I have never ever taken any deposit, providing I hadn’t have to buy a big bundle of materials. I am asking for deposit only to buy a big first bundle of materials and this is refering to big jobs and have signed a payment schedule on materials and labour. Regards Chrisbrieckie

I usually ask for 30% on commencement, 20% half way through and or balance on completion. Usually when the client knows you well, they may do 50% deposit. Some clients do not want to pay anything at all until completion and mainly due to previous bad experiences. It works both ways for both contractors and clients, the share the same concerns about receiving payments and getting the job done. Unfortunately a few bad potatoes in the sack on both sides have made both parties overly cautious which is understandable

I ask for 30% regardless as I've had customers continue looking for a better deal once they secure your services or cancel last minute.

Anywhere from 30 - 50% is the norm. 50% seems to be from people who have been stung in the past. Pay the 50% and not a penny more till completion(unless unforseen issue crops up).

Hi I want to let you know that I b in n working in this industry for over 33 years and I never asked anyone to pay more than 20% deposit the 30% deposit was only when I build new house or extension and loft and garage i conversion, and price were include material and labour so I never heard of 50% upfront when material is not included I think should be between 10 or 20% deposit

This really should be the decision of your builder as every project has its differences and initial outlay - but you shouldn’t pay anything over half the total cost - larger projects generally 10% as a deposit will get the project rolling - please note your project should fund itself and should only have an amount or percentage held back until completion and happy with all the works produced

25% as a deposit should be reasonable for a labour-only service to book the job. Another 25% after the first fix, and the remaining balance is to be paid after completion, when you sign the completion report. A tradesman should provide a quote, invoice/receipt, and T&C or the basic contract. In this way, both parties are secure, and there is evidence of payments, an agreed scope of work, and any additional charges. Certificate of insurance and required qualifications will be an advantage.

Suggested Payment Structure: • 30% upfront or day one • 40% at the midway point • 30% upon completion/handover All payments are to be made based on milestones and progress achieved.
