Carole Steel 06/10/2025 - 8.57 AM

i have water damage to the back of one of my kitchen units. not sure where it is coming from. sometimes, it pools a bit on the kitchen surface. not sure if i need a plumber or a builder? it is not constant.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If the water isn't coming from spills on the worktop surface I would imagine there could be a leaking pipe behind the wall tiles or plaster. I would suggest a builder over a plumber to start with as tracing the water ingress could be more decor/connected surface intrusive. I hope that helps.

I would recommend getting a plumber to investigate the cause Ie leaks from pipes, taps, waste, or appliances. They’ll also be able to advise on whether it’s just a minor repair or if pipework needs replacing. Regards David

I would suggest a plumber, but it could be a simple matter of condensation. If its behind the unit and there is pipe work there i would suggest a plumber, but if there is nothing but a wall it could be a leak from upstairs (someone elses property or water services in loft/cavity wall.) But water can travel where it pleases so it may not be from the kitchen at all and have a leak elsewhere and the water is finding its way to the unit. I would suggest trying to find the source of the leak and if it is infact feom pipework consult a plumber as they will know far more about it than a general builder but you could need both to do some work to solve the issue

Shower drain leak – the drain fitting or trap may be cracked or poorly sealed. Leaking supply pipes – hot/cold water pipes feeding the shower could have a pinhole leak or loose joint. Shower screen/door seal failure – water might be escaping past tiles, grout, or sealant and running into the wall cavity. Damaged waterproofing or cracked tiles – water gets behind tiles, seeps into the wall and downwards.

Hi, I would say a professional builder to investigate the source of the water pooling. Do you have a bathroom above the kitchen as its very common place for water leaks. Adam

A good plumber would be able to figure out where the water is coming from and and tell you if its a hib he can do or a builder needs to do
