Water ponding on lead flashing
Anonymous user 26/09/2025 - 8.11 AM
Hi, I’ve recently had work done to my chimney: flashing replaced and render. I’ve noticed however that water is pooling on the flashing. I’ve read on a few sources that prolonged water exposure can lead to corrosion of the lead and consequently splitting and cracking. My gut instinct is that this isn’t right but opinions appreciated.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

When fitting lead flashing, it should always be put on a slant for water to drain off you can use a leg flashing Sealant to make sure that no water gets through

Understanding your concern, I would just like add that older properties with bay windows used to have the area above formed into the recess. This would form a fully waterproof dish that wouldn't leak until it's lead pipework drainpipe blocked. Many of these have lasted several decades without issue. Water shouldn't puddle on a newly flashed chimney, but I hope this eases any worries it may be causing.
