Asbestos plasterboard and Textured painted ceiling

Can anyone offer any advice on how to deal with issues with Asbestos in ceilings. I have recently viewed a few properties with a view to renovate. I understand that certain materials such as plasterboard and textured paints contained asbestos in the old days. What would be my option if I encounter a plasterboard ceiling which checks positive for asbestos? During a renovation I would need to drill into the ceiling for rewiring and other manual tasks such as decorating. I have also encountered ceilings with what I thought was paper lining. But also now understand that the textured paint may contain asbestos. Any advice on how to effectively and economically navigate a renovation when such material are encountered ? Thanks in advance.

I’ve come across the same thing a few times when viewing older places. If it turns out to be asbestos board or old Artex, you don’t really want to be drilling into it. Cheapest option is usually just overboarding and skimming rather than paying for a full removal. Proper removal gets pricey quick because it has to be done by licensed guys and the waste disposal isn’t cheap either. A lot of folk just leave it in place if it’s sound, as it’s not a risk unless you disturb it. Personally I wouldn’t let it put me off a house unless every ceiling was covered in the stuff.
