GRP Roof Pitting in Topcoat
Anonymous user 01/09/2025 - 1.05 PM
I recently had a GRP roof installed on my dormer roof. The roofer is an experienced GRP installer however he installed it on a day when rain was forecast despite my reservations. After he had applied the top coat it started raining about 5 minutes after. The roof was not covered. It now has pitting in lots of places. The roofer tells me this is just cosmetic and won’t affect the longevity of the roof. Is this true? Thanks for any advice.

Hi there, unfortunately yes. Rain immediately after installation will affect the integrity of the roof by weakening the resin. Moisture can contaminate the curing process causing it to cure unevenly. The good new is that this can be repaired by sanding down, wiping with acetone, then re-applying the topcoat.
