Roofing work done but is faulty
Yasmeen Ghani 26/08/2025 - 8.18 AM
If the roofer did the roof work and gave 10 year guarantee but doesn't answer the phone now to do the repairs (work done 11 months ago), what are my options to take action against him or to persuade him to do the repairs
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

A Garauntee is only as good as the person issuing it, is the person still in business doing the same work, do you have a postal address you can send a letter to. After going through all of all the usual channels unless you can find your tradesman there is really nothing you can do without being able to find them to get the work done, you really have two options call it a day and pay someone to repair the fault, or continue trying to find this person & most likely having to go through the courts to get an redress.
I would contact trading standards in your area if the person is still trading to make them aware of the person.
Good luck Alex

If the roofer gave you a 10-year guarantee, they are legally obligated to honour it. Since they are ignoring your calls, you should:
1. Gather Evidence: Keep copies of the contract/guarantee, photos of the faulty work, and records of attempts to contact them.
2. Send a Formal Letter: Write a recorded delivery letter giving them 14 days to fix the problem or you’ll take further action.
3. Check Trade Associations: If they are part of a trade body (e.g., NFRC, TrustMark), file a complaint there.
4. Contact Trading Standards: Report them for failing to honour the guarantee.
5. Use Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR): Many building disputes can be resolved without court.
6. Take Legal Action: As a last resort, you can make a claim through the small claims court for the cost of repairs.
