IKEA floor standing cabinet – how to anchor to plasterboard wall

Anonymous user 08/08/2025 - 12.34 PM

Hi, I have a tall IKEA NYSJÖN cabinet (30x30x190cm) which is raised with 2 legs at the front. It's meant to be anchored to the wall with 4 plates at the back. I have some Duopower 6mm x 50mm plugs, would they be suitable for the plasterboard wall? I wouldn't hang a cabinet on a wall solo, but the 2 legs at the front are surely taking a good amount of weight?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You would probably be better off using some plasterboard fixings like wall anchors! The duo plugs would probably hold but my main concern would be that if the front gets knocked it may cause the back to drop. Hope that makes sense

I wouldn’t recommend a rawlplug. I don’t know what a duo plug is but sounds like a rawlplug fixing. There are plenty of good hollow wall fixings available or you could try and hopefully locate a stud at the top of the cabinet along its length and use one good L bracket fixed to to top of the cabinet and fix to the stud. Hope this helps
