Bathroom Fitting

Installing hardwired LED mirrors

Elaine 07/08/2025 - 9.51 AM

What would be required to install a plug-in LED mirror to work in a bathroom that has no electrical outlet? Furthermore, should one move home in future and want to take this mirror with, is the installation easy to undo?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Will require circuit wired, this must be RCD protected. The socket outlet (if a jointing plate cannot be used) can only be located in certain areas of the bathroom. Consult a qualified electrician. You should also get a certificate for the work.

To install a plug-in LED mirror in a UK bathroom without an existing outlet, you’ll need to run power from a nearby socket (ideally outside the bathroom) via a fused spur or have the mirror hardwired by a qualified electrician. The mirror must meet IP44+ ratings if installed near water. If you move home, removal is easy if it’s plug-in; hardwired setups require safe disconnection and wall repair.
