Valspar premium emulsion

Janine Rodgers 07/08/2025 - 8.09 AM

I'm painting my living room in valspar premium emulsion. White on top and goose feather on bottom. Can I use this paint on my woodwork and radiator. Or do I need wood and metal paint

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello, of course, that appropriate paint materials are used for the right materials. So for metal, just like for a radiator, there are oil paints in spray or water-based paints under a brush and rollers... For wood, another paint or water-based... I think that water-based paints are better and better, they have a non-yellowing effect like oil paints...

You would require a radiator paint as not only is it metal but has to withstand nominal heat and not diacolour

Hi Janine, Valspar Premium Emulsion is designed specifically for walls and ceilings and is not suitable for use on woodwork or radiators. For wood and metal surfaces such as skirting boards, doors, or radiators, you’ll need to use a paint formulated for those materials—typically a wood & metal paint, available in water-based (quick-drying) or oil-based (durable, high-finish) options. If you’d like to keep a consistent colour scheme, many suppliers can mix your chosen Valspar shade into a compatible wood/metal paint. Let me know if you need help matching or sourcing the right product. Kind regards, Igor N Nilo Construction Ltd

Hi I’d use a suitable undercoat and gloss or satinwood oil based paint on your woodwork and radiators it’ll last longer keep the Emulsions for your walls and ceilings 😀

Is the Valspar matt finish? If it is then won't be as hard wearing on the woodwork and not wipe able without leaving a mark. I'd recommend rubbing down the woodwork and priming it. Then use a colour matched gloss or satin as this is your choice on the finish. Apply 2x coats of the topcoat gloss for the best finish and most hard wearing over the years. Radiators get very hot so you will find the Valspar not the best option . I'd get some radiator paint and prep and rub down the rad with very fine 180 grit or more to give it a key. Then apply the radiator paint with a roller and use a very fine 2 inch brush to brush out the air bubbles and leave to dry totally before firing up the heating. This will give a factory type finish to the radiator.

Please do not use any type of emulsion on wood or metal, get an appropriate primer/undercoat for wood and metals then same get the appropriate topcoat for wood and metal in the finish you require.

Valspar premium emulsion is only for walls/ceilings — for woodwork and radiators you’ll need a dedicated wood & metal paint for durability and proper adhesion.

Definitely not I would always use the correct paint for the job either it be interior or exterior Different paint for surfaces Always remember Oreo work is vital for a perfect fish with straight lines and clean and good coverage of paint as some surfaces might require multiple of coats and akso depend on colour
