Depth of new concrete
Bill Britton 04/08/2025 - 11.50 AM
I need to know the depth of new concrete required to attach a post plate to hold a 2.4mx100mm wooden post for an outbuilding.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Post plates are no good they won’t hold the post especially 4”sq post, when it gets really wet and heavy, they buckle and pull out of the concrete. My advice from experience would be get a longer post, dig a neat 600mm/2ft deep post hole and back fill it with postcrete (ideal concrete for this job) checking it’s vertical in both planes as you pour the mix. That will hold it.
