Edging for gravel to pavement

Hi - I had this work done, as we wanted to extend the driveway by removing a panel of fence. The guy has said it can’t be edged with anything without creating a lip which he said will look bad & I think it looks messy / unfinished at the moment. What would you recommend to finish the edges against the pavement/ tarmac?

Should really be edged with a flat top edging kerb (if done correctly and dug in enough there shouldn't be a lip) sounds like your contractor couldn't be bothered with this added hassle and possibly the additional cost of taring the pavement at the other end.
