Furniture/cabinet paint
Jane Cryan 01/07/2025 - 8.11 AM
I've got sliding wardrobe, they're the old fashioned wood effect. Should I use cabinet or furniture paint and can anyone recommend a particular brand. I have been looking at Rust Oleum furniture paint. Thanks in advance for any help/recommendations.

My advice - You need a product called Zinsser BIN as a primer, then two coats of Dulux quick dry satinwood. good luck!

Hi Jane,
Great question! For painting old-style sliding wardrobes with a wood effect finish, you’re on the right track looking at furniture or cabinet paints.
✅ Recommended Paint Options:
• Rust-Oleum Furniture Paint – A solid choice. It adheres well and has a good range of finishes (matt, satin, eggshell). Use their primer if the surface is glossy or laminate.
• Zinsser AllCoat (Interior) – Excellent for tricky surfaces, including laminate or melamine. No primer needed in many cases.
• Dulux Cupboard Paint – Designed for cabinets/wardrobes. Very durable and smooth finish.
🔧 Application Tips:
1. Clean the surface thoroughly (sugar soap works well).
2. Lightly sand to give the paint something to grip.
3. Prime if surface is glossy or factory-finished.
4. Apply 2–3 thin coats of your chosen furniture or cabinet paint.
5. Finish with a clear furniture lacquer if you want added durability.
