Front porch posts

Anonymous user 11/06/2025 - 8.59 AM

I have wooden front door posts which are attached to brick work and join into a wooden porch canopy above my front door. The wooden door posts have rot at the bottom am I better off in the long run repairing, replacing the wood or replacing with UPVC? Who type of tradesman is the best person for this type of job?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

When wood get dry or wet rod meds to be spliced 200 /300 mm way from rod and added a new well treated pice. This needs treatment whenever it wears out. No other repair will last without removing the rotted pice. You can replace it with an composite post but this have to be checked the wait it can curry. A handy man or a carpenter should be able to do this job.

I always recommend that you replace all rotted timbers. If it’s got into one area then most probably it might be else where but not showing to the public eye. I would install a good hardwood post. It’s for life. I wouldn’t use a UPVC.
