How much PVA needed
Anonymous user 10/06/2025 - 9.06 AM
I intend to tile upon plywood as per advice in previous posts I note that I am advised to seal the plywood with a PVA solution. My question is the PVA applied to the plywood neat or mixed with something if so what and what ratio? Thanks

do not put tiles straight to plywood. use cement board or tile matt on top of plywood and then sbr or pva if you are doing cement board.

You can fix your tiles to plywood, it’s the old method and a few people have mentioned using cement board and sealer (I use SBA or tile primer) as it is easier & more cost effective. If you want to go ahead with ply make sure the boards are well fixed and then seal with SBR. PVA is gets watered down by the adhesive and has less affect. You should be good to go, make sure you use a good flexible cementitious adhesive category S1 or S2
