Do I need to replaster these walls or can I just prep the usual way for painting?

Hi, I have removed the wallpaper from my bedroom walls and found an interesting mess behind it! I am unsure whether I would get away with sanding, filling etc.. or whether they will need skimming/replastering. It looks like, as was the same with the false wall I have removed, that tiles were applied to the walls previously and once removed have taken away paint/plaster. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I will post photos if I can

Is the budget allows I'd always recommend plastering, but it's possible to fill sand and repeat but I'd save myself the hassle and get a good plasterer in 👍
