Discolouration of oak porch

Will Thomas 06/05/2025 - 4.56 PM

We have an oak frame porch over our front door. It's about 3 years old. The oak has gone a dark colour in places. I would like it to be more the original wood colour again. Is this common and is there anything I can do about it? Thank you.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello, this could just be oxidation from the air but this usually turns the oak a orange like colour, or if its in small pin point areas it could be metal fixings in the oak, the metal reacts with the tannis in the oak and turns it black, you could try sanding it down and seeing if that does anything, if not then I dont think there's much you can do

Once the discolouration process has begun there nothing you can do to an existing structure, door or window.
