Conservatory DPM & paving flags, cover with stones?

My conservatory had two layers of concrete paving flags flush to the rendered walls. This was causing the render to absorb the water and ruin it. As a result I’ve cut a 100mm from the flags and I can now see the DPM. So I was thinking of putting some 20mm limestone chippings into the channel. I wondered if that would bridge the DPM and cause water to go to the wall again.
