Ply or OSB3 under shower tray

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 3.32 PM

I'm installing a shower cubicle which will sit on a raised wooden plinth/frame. I've have a load of 18mm OSB3 left which i can use for the base, but the general consensus is that this shouldnt be used. Should ply be used instead? If so, can i just use WBP ply? Marine ply seems ridiculously expensive, and i wont end up using most of it.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Don't use osb3 as it's likely to rot away should the shower tray fail in the future. Instead you should opt for a a marine ply or wbp would also suffice.. If you want to go on the extra cautious side you could also tank the shower area prior to tray install Hope this helps

Use WBP ply as this is stronger than OSB3 and is water resistant

Make sure you use WBP it’s a lot more durable and stronger than osb.
