Using a thick sealant paint or tar-like substance to seal a corrugated plastic shed roof can be an effective way of stopping leaks. Here are some steps you can take to address the issue: 1. Inspect and identify the leak source: Before applying any sealant, it's essential to identify the source of the leak. Check for cracks, gaps, or damaged areas in the roof where water could be seeping through. You may need to check the areas where the roof meets the walls, seams, or any roof penetrations like screws or nails. 2. Choose the Right Sealant: Look for sealants specifically designed for use on plastic roofs. Products such as rubberized coatings, elastomeric sealants, or silicone-based sealants are often used for this purpose. Ensure the sealant you choose is compatible with plastic surfaces. 3. Prepare the Surface: Clean the roof surface thoroughly to remove any dirt, debris, or algae that could prevent the sealant from adhering properly. Use a pressure washer or a scrub brush with a mild detergent to clean the surface. Let it dry completely before applying the sealant. 4. **Apply the Sealant**: Using a paintbrush, roller, or spray applicator, apply the sealant evenly over the entire roof surface. Pay extra attention to areas where leaks are suspected or where seams meet. Follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding the application process, drying time, and number of coats needed. 5. Allow for Proper Curing: Once the sealant is applied, allow it to cure properly. This usually involves letting the product dry completely and letting it cure for the recommended time before exposing it to water. 6. Monitor for Effectiveness: After the sealant has fully cured, monitor the roof for any signs of leaks during rainfall or water tests. If leaks persist, you may need to reapply the sealant or consider other repair options. Remember, while sealants can be effective in addressing minor leaks, they may be temporary fixes. If your roof continues to leak despite your efforts, it may be worth considering more extensive repairs or consulting a professional roofer to assess the situation.

If your barn is large, a professional roofer can locate and repair any leaks. But if the roof is very small, you can save costs by purchasing insulation material from DIY stores and covering the entire roof with this material.

The roof in question clearly is failing! I would suggest a new roofing system that will be able to then make this roof water tight and able to receive any type of weather front.
