Old armoured cable under the floor boards of an old property

Anonymous user 16 March 2024 - 3.30 PM

We have an old property that has some damp issues. On removing some floor boards in the lounge there is some old armoured cable. There is damp coming through the wall where it enters the house. We would like it removed and fill up the hole. Who is responsible for its removal?

Ideally an electrician, so they can prove if the cable is live or dead and then do the required work accordingly.

Firstly you will need to find out of it's still in use or even an armoured cable at all! We recommend you get a local electrician out to check it all out, if it's redundant removal will be fast and simple, hower if it's tested and it's already dead and it's not causing harm it may be best to get it cut back and any holes in the wall filled with silicone. If the cable is still in use running a bead of sealant around it will help stop the damp ingress. In short, your electrician on attendance will have a better situational awareness and will know the best thing to do in each situation.
