Bricklaying & Repointing

Outward bowing of a main wall

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 3.32 PM

Good Day, We have had a home survey report done on a property we are looking to buy in Kent. the house is a mid 60's house. the surveyor has noted that on the flank elevation towards the apex of the gable there is evidence of an outward bowing of the main wall which would indicate that the main wall is losing lateral restraint with the gable. can someone please advise me how big and how expensive of a job this is to fix? Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Natasha

This is a common occurance and most commonly caused by failure of cavity ties failing. Do you have photo's of the problem wall. Usually needs minor proping but depends if inner skin has moved also. Please supply photo's.

It depends on the area of problem. Also the external finish of the property. 1st job. Scaffold for safe working & Skips to keep site clear of trip hazzard. Take down affected area load into skips. Re Build tying new face to inner leaf. Finish depends on existing Work should take 3 to 5 days depending on size. In north lancashire it would be approx. £4,000 to £5,000 plus V A t. In Kent it would depend on Labour & Material rates. Hope this was helpful
