Kitchen tap. Hard water supply, softened hot and cold?
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 3.32 PM
Hi How many different supply feeds should I have for my kitchen tap? I would like softened hot and cold water. I also would like unsoftened water for drinking. There is a bit of a debate that softened water isn’t safe to drink Is there a tap that can handle a switch between hard and softened water? A quooker one?

Hi,
For your kitchen tap setup, you typically need two supply feeds: one for hot water and one for cold water. If you want softened hot and cold water for general use and unsoftened water for drinking, you can consider installing a water softener system for the entire house and then a separate drinking water tap that bypasses the softener.
Regarding the safety of drinking softened water, softened water is generally safe for drinking, but some people prefer the taste of unsoftened water. It's a matter of personal preference.
As for taps that can handle a switch between hard and softened water, there are options available in the market. The Quooker brand, for example, offers taps with multiple functions, including taps that dispense boiling water as well as regular hot and cold water. You may want to explore their product range or consult with a plumbing expert to find the best solution for your needs.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.

The best way is to have a 3 way kitchen tap so you can have both hard water and soft.
