CAN I SEAL A HOLE WHERE THE CONDEMNED GAS FIRE IS,
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 3.32 PM
i have a condemned gas fire in my lounge, i cant afford to get it taken out, but i also havè a bioethanol fire that covers the old gas fire, because it was condemned no gas pipe is live, so could i put some radiator foil across the hole and seal it with double sided tape and just put the bioethanol fire back in front of the old gas fire, it has a chimney that throws a huge draught into the room, and i was thinking could i cover and seal it off? thank you for reading

There is an issue with doing this and is normally due to the water/draught coming into the chimney totally blocking it off will cause the material to “sweat” because ventilation is needed to allow air flow up the chimney breast you can seal it but a vent will be needed to allow the breast to breathe, the vent should be accessible so if the really bad days you can close the vent but must be re opened, hope this helps, failing that a breast removal if you are in your forever home you will be surprised how much space you will have on all floors 👍,
