Chimney & Fireplace

Must I vent a capped chimney at both ground and bedroom level.

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 3.31 PM

I have been told that provided the chimney pot is capped, there is no need for an air vent in my disused bedroom fireplace and it can be totally plastered over. Is this correct or does it still require ventilation? If so, will it be ok provided I still vent the chimney at ground floor level? Thanks

you need to vent the chimney flues at both ends to prevent a build up of condensation creating damp, no installing a vent on the lower chimney will only vent the lower flue, all chimney flues are separate suppling one fireplace
